It's cold, foggy, and drizzly outside... This might appeal to some fans of the Pacific Northwest, but the Southern girl in me is missing her sunshine! What do you do to shake off the cold and drearies?
I've been listening to some peppy saidii music, and that's helping a little bit. But I think I need more! And a hot cuppa isn't really doin' it for me quite yet... Whatchu got?

Re: how do you shake the blues?
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 4:19 PMA little Bhangra dancing and music, pretty hard to stay sad after 30 minutes of that! That and if you can get some full spectrum light bulbs for your place, it helps a lot when there is no real sunshine to play in. -

Thu, September 20, 2007 - 5:34 PMYou are right at that! Bhangra is SO effective!
My office is all fluorescent all the time :( I'll have to check on the full-spectrum light tip....

Sat, September 22, 2007 - 1:29 AMTake a goofy puppy out to see the goats in Redwood Regional Park. Pups love the cold and rain, the shephard's dogs get bored and start to herd to dogs that pass. All in all a hoot ;~) -

Re: how do you shake the blues?
Tue, September 25, 2007 - 11:58 AMThe music I recommend is either the live versions of Bob Marley's "Trenchtown Rock" and " Lively Up Yourself" or some uptempo African music...I have some that is off a compilation that never fails to move me around the room.
Movie: try to rent the documentary called "Surfing for Life"...you will be SO inspired! It's all about folks who've been surfing their whole lives and are now in their elder years--including one 94-year-old who still gets out on the board every day.
TV: rent the show called "Weeds". It's from Showtime and is excellent; funny, dry, smart, and in nice 1/2 hour chunks. I downloaded the second season onto my video ipod for my trip to Amsterdam and it was a godsend on the plane!
Retail: buy something cheap and pretty. -

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 12:33 PMLisa! Walk it out!
Put on the funkiest ghetto music you got, turn it up super loud, then walk at lightning speed all over your dwelling place. into the bathroom, back out, into the closet, back out, up the stairs, on top of the toilet, walk the ktichen counters. it helps really. When i get STUCK (in whatever) I put on Tricky and "Walk it out"
or...
let's hit Mexico and find some sunshine! -

Re: how do you shake the blues?
Tue, September 25, 2007 - 1:45 PMOMG, Lisa... tell me about it. I'm starting to fucking tweak out without the sunshine. It's my 4th year in Seattle and it's NOT getting better. This year is definitely the worst because daily, I sooooo enjoyed the warm Seattle summer sun. I felt it moving farther away, day by day, over the last 3 weeks and am really feeling the dark side of me now. UGH. My husband is from here, so, he's telling me I've got to learn how to see it as a cleansing period. Yeah.... 8 fucking months of it.
I'll try walking it out, Big A. Sounds like a good idea. But dang.... hating it. More tips, please!!! -
